Standard Bearer of the Armies

kevinwilliams.jpg

The Signifer was the senior signiferi in a Roman centuri. His duty was to carry the Signum or Vexillum, a military standard displaying the name and emblem of the legion or a small flag. This standard consisted of a woven fabric banner, hung on a crossbar attached to a pole or lance. It was used by both infantry and cavalry.  The Signifier kept the books for the unit and t is second in command en castris, but thrid in Command in Combat.

The Signifer at Lafe will care for the standards, and be responsible for maintaining the Principia as well as handling record keeping, money, and pay issues as necessary.  The Signiferi are also ther timekeepers of the fort, and will maintain time measure throughout the event including an hourly notification of the time made verbally after a single cornu blast.

The Signifer will liason with the Event staff in matters of waivers and fees for the real world side of the event as well.

The Signifer must be intimately familiar with the Tactica, as the entire drill is now built around them!
